Mom - My guardian angel

My mother was my best friend. She called me Meho—Spanish for son—a name that always made me feel safe and loved. She was my mentor, my guiding light. I called her sometimes twice a day, just to hear her voice, to share my life with her. I am, and always will be, a mama’s boy.

In 2001, cancer came for her, and for three years, my siblings and I cared for her the best we could. I watched the most beautiful, wonderful mother a boy could ever ask for endure the agony of radiation and chemotherapy. It ate away at her, but she fought back with unimaginable strength. When she went into remission, I was overjoyed, believing we had won. But then, the cancer returned with a vengeance, cruel and relentless. I watched my strong, courageous mother wither away, battling this merciless disease. And when she left this world, my heart shattered. The pain was unbearable. I turned to drugs and alcohol, trying to escape the emptiness, the grief. I spiraled, lost everything, and hit rock bottom—even finding myself homeless. She was the kindest, most selfless soul—always helping others, always giving. She and my father were a doctor-nurse team, traveling the world on Christian missions, healing the sick, touching lives. They were saints walking among us. Somewhere in my darkness, I found solace in a song—"Angels" by Robbie Williams. It gave me strength when I felt defeated. After she was gone, I felt like the world had turned cold and cruel, but I prayed to her, asking her to be my guardian angel. "She offers me protection, a lot of love and affection, whether I'm right or wrong... and down the waterfall, wherever it may take me, I know that life won’t break me. When I come to call, she won’t forsake me... I’m loving angels instead." Mom, you are my angel. You always have been. I love you, and I know that one day, I will see you again in heaven. Thank you for watching over me in this often heartless world. You were, and always will be, my best friend. Oh, how I miss you. Your loving son, Meho Evan
